2000 - Woodland Christian Church Foundation
The new century brought with it a new approach to church financing at Woodland. The church always had some long term needs that were difficult to meet within the general budget. As Tim Diachun put it, “There always seemed to be some building need or unexpected crisis of some sort.” So Steve Coon, Mel Boyd, and Tim, along with Pastor Bill Kincaid, began working with the Christian Church Foundation in Indianapolis to study the benefits of Woodland establishing its own foundation.
Like a lot of churches, Woodland had received some sizable gifts over the years; most were of a few thousand dollars, (and one as much as $47,000) and usually came from estates and trusts. But because nobody was in charge of managing the funds, they tended to get set aside, and yielded only modest interest.
By 2003 the men began drafting a document that would lead to the establishment of the Woodland Christian Church Foundation. During this time two members made gifts of $100,000 and another member contributed $282,000. These and the other gifts were placed in investment accounts, and in recent years, the foundation has grown to the point where it has been able to contribute $35,000 annually to the church.
The foundation encourages members to do some estate planning, promotes the benefits of having a will, and offers a legally established opportunity for members to provide long term support for Woodland Christian Church.
All contributions – large and small - are joined together, and over time, will ultimately generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of Christian ministry.
