1956 - Farish Farewell
Two prominent Woodland Christian Church stalwarts made major career decisions in 1956. Dr. Frank Dickey, accepted the presidency of the University of Kentucky in June, and pastor Hayes Farish announced that he would retire at the year’s end.
During his final service on December 30th, the congregation presented Farish with $3,000 and a new ($3,189.37) Studebaker (that’s a car, kids). The Hayes Farish class gave him a portable typewriter (that’s like an iPad, kids). And fittingly, the Youth gave him a new high-fidelity phonograph (that’s like iTunes and a pair of Bluetooth speakers, kids). I can only assume that he and his bride of four years, the former Artie Lynne Snider, did a little dancing around the house.
Farish would accept a few interim pastor positions, and later became the President of Christmount Christian Assembly, a Christian Church campground in North Carolina.
The success of Farish’s long pastorate at Woodland set the standard for future ministers.
